The 7th Annual March of the Toys Parade for Toys for Tots will be held on Friday evening, December 6, beginning at 7 p.m. in Ball Ground, Georgia. Attendees to the parade are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots campaign. Collection boxes for the toys will be available at City Park and along the parade route on Main Street.
Grand Marshals for the parade will be actress Toni Hudson and her dog, Charlie! Hudson has appeared in films and on television. Her first role was in the daytime soap opera Capitol. Her best-known part was in the 1985 film, Just One of the Guys as Denise. She has made guest appearances on TV shows such as The Greatest American Hero, T.J. Hooker, Knight Rider, The A-Team, and The Love Boat. Hudson also has choreographed for singer/actor Dwight Yoakam on many of his music videos and for the Country Music Awards in Nashville. Hudson currently is producing and starring in a feature film with her dog Charlie which was filmed in Cherokee County, titled Charlie’s Christmas Wish.
The parade also will feature The Georgia 501st Legion (Star Wars characters), the Creekview High School Marching Band, the North Metro Marching Eagles Band, the Peachtree Clown Alley, princesses, superheroes, Mickey Mouse, dancers, floats, tractors, antique cars and much, much more.
“We have had an unbelievable response from Cosplayers from as far away as Knoxville, Tennessee that will be appearing as Superheroes” said Tim Cavender, who is the parade chairman. Some of the entrees include Superheroes such as Batman, The Wasp, Men in Black, the Green Arrow, the Catwoman and many more. Additionally, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be arriving, too. This parade is the only one where Santa brings snow with him when he travels down Main Street.
Attendees are encouraged to get to the event early to visit the vendor area to do some Christmas shopping. Some of the items that will be for sale include Christmas ornaments, Christmas candy, jewelry, wreaths, soaps, wood signs, leather goods, home décor and much more.
After the parade, the Cosplayers will gather at City Park so children can have their photos taken with their favorite fictional characters. This is also the time when Santa makes his official arrival to the town. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be located on the stage at City Park for photos too. Photos are absolutely free, so don’t forget to bring your camera.
Many of the restaurants and businesses will be open for extended hours to serve the attendees.
The parade is one of the largest Christmas parades in North Georgia. “I do encourage attendees to get to the event a little early,” said Cavender. “This is an awesome event that the whole family can enjoy.” To learn more about the event and areas to park, please visit their webpage at http://www.marchofthetoysparade.com or go to their Facebook page at March of the Toys Parade.
