Staying Awake for 60 Hours to Bring Awareness of Heroes Taken by Suicide

Cartersville Firefighters with Trek for Heroes 2020 Founder, Peg Steele.

Trek for Heroes Causes, Inc. hosted “Wake Up to Our Heroes 62/23”, an event that brought awareness to the 20 veterans and three first responders lost daily to suicide.

Organization founder, Peg Steele, stayed awake for 60 hours and rang a bell every 62 minutes to honor a hero who took his/her life during that time.  Steele, along with her husband John and other volunteers, were visited by members of local public safety and veteran agencies.

Riderless horse – a chilling visual reminder of the high cost many of our heroes pay after serving their country and community.

The Taylorsville organization educates the metro Atlanta community on the benefits of equine assisted therapy for veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD and physical disabilities.
